One area in this town is turning in to a fun place to stroll, shop and dine. It is the Antique District on Castle Street between 5th and 7th Streets. Two blocks of stores full to the brim of great old stuff. Some stores have early American, others Victorian, collectibles, retro and some have all inside their doors. There are several shops with multiple dealers like Eclectic, New Castle Antique Center, Maggie’s Antiques, The Antique Pickers Mall and Fabulous Finds. One owner shops like Adams Antiques and Michael Moores are also on the block and both of them also do some appraisals. So, if you need to know the value of an item or perhaps are looking to sell, these two blocks are the place to stop first. There are other shops around town too but this is a first stop. You will find great mahogany furniture, old German clocks, great costume jewelry, fine china, Fenton, McCoy and more.

Not only are there great antiques but the Vintage Values store sells clothing and more to benefit the Domestic Violence Shelter. Wilmington Wine is there too and after a long day shopping how nice to sit and relax with a nice glass of wine. Also on the ‘strip’ is a great little place to eat called Jesters Java. It sits inside a great little cottage house and many folks stop for lunch before or after shopping. There is even a theatre called Cape Fear Playhouse and on the right day of the month you could make an entire day of just playing on Castle Street in the Antique District from eating and shopping to relaxing with a nice wine and heading to a show without ever moving your car from it’s parking spot!
