There is no shortage of fun things for a family to do in the region. We have great parks, like Hugh Mcrae, where you can have a picnic, take a stroll (it is a Nature Preserve too), play Frisbee or make arrangements to take a shelter for the day and have a family reunion or birthday party! Greenfield Lake Park offers you the chance to take the kids in a canoe or paddleboats and in the spring see some of the best Azalea bushes anywhere in town in full bloom. If you want something higher energy there is always a trip to Jungle Rapids where you can ride the huge water slides or float on the rapids, climb the wall, race cars and more. Those who like it a little more extreme can hit Greenfield Grind Skate Park to get your grind on but remember for those under 18, a parent must sign the waiver!

Some families like to explore history and education and there is a lot to offer on that front. The Children’s Museum is very hands on and The Cape Fear Museum not only has things for the kids, the sports nut will see some cool things Michael Jordon gave for display since he played ball here. Cameron Art Museum houses a great collection of NC Artists on permanent collection and features others on an ongoing basis. During the warmer months you will find lots of free concerts. There is the Downtown Sundown Concert series, Mayfaire’s Music on the Town Concerts and Carolina Beach also does free shows at the Boardwalk. There are a host of music festivals, free Shakespeare in the park, farmers markets, ghost tours, film tours, bowling alleys, skating rinks and a plethora of activities available to the family. The kids will have a hard time saying they are bored!
